Vyvanse treats a couple of conditions but can have a big impact on your budget. There are ways to save, however, including with Vyvanse coupons.
In January, Vyvanse became the first medication that the Food and Drug Administration approved for treating binge eating disorder in adults. This came after previous approvals to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, in people 6 and older.
The drug can cost $200 or more for a 30-day supply of 30-mg tablets at your local pharmacy. Here are some ways to cut the bill.
Vyvanse is the brand name for lisdexamfetamine dimesylate. It is a form of the drug dextroamphetamine that remains therapeutically inactive until metabolized in the body. The advantages over dextroamphetamine are that it can be taken once a day and has lower “drug-liking effects,” which are linked to abuse, according to the FDA.
Drug manufacturer Shire still has the patent on Vyvanse, meaning no generic version is available.
There is generic dextroamphetamine, which is just as safe and effective as brand-name versions of that drug, according to the FDA. “A generic drug is the same as a brand-name drug in dosage, safety, strength, quality, the way it works, the way it is taken and the way it should be used. FDA requires generic drugs have the same high quality, strength, purity and stability as brand-name drugs.”
Vyvanse coupons from the manufacturer
Vyvanse manufacturer Shire has an offer that will pay up to $60 toward each of 12 prescription fills. Also, the Shire Cares program covers some or all of the costs for patients who can’t afford medications.
Other ways to save on Vyvanse
Check websites such as GoodRx and Drugs.com for more Vyvanse coupons. You can also look into drug assistance programs such as FamilyWize or the Patient Assistance Network, which offer discounts for more than just Vyvanse — they can help you save on other drugs, too.
Finally, check prices at different pharmacies; some drugs cost twice as much at some pharmacies as they do at another right down the road. You can do this yourself or with the help of drug comparison websites, such as those mentioned above.
